SIXTH ANNUAL KONA CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL MARCH 2007

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawai'i – The 6th Annual Kona Chocolate Festival is scheduled for March 22 through March 24, 2007, at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort, and will include a multi-day, variety-filled Chocolate Symposium concluded by a decadent evening Gala.

The evening Gala on Saturday, March 24, 2007, is a high-octane dance party filled with wonderful chocolate creations by Big Island chefs, caterers, ice cream and candy makers. Experience the high energy generated by event-goers sampling more than 25,000 pieces of sweet chocolate desserts and savory chocolate appetizers! Enjoy sparkling wine, specialty beers and cordials, 100% Kona coffee, a warm chocolate fondue fountain, and live music under the starry Hawaiian sky. By the end of the evening, make a “people’s choice” nomination for the favorite dessert or appetizer of the evening and see who takes home the prize in sweet, savory, professional and amateur categories.

The Kona Chocolate Festival Symposium, running Thursday, March 22 through Saturday, March 24, 2007, will include spa treatments, educational and informative tours, and seminars for chocolate enthusiasts, culinary professionals and farmers with programs designed to excite, educate and increase awareness of Hawaiian chocolate and the many uses of cacao.

The annual Kona Chocolate Festival, presented by Kona Pacific Waldorf School, highlights the little known but important fact that chocolate (cacao) is grown and processed in Hawai'i. Hawai'i’s history of growing cacao dates back to the 1800’s and it is now an integral component of the state’s strategy to diversify its agriculture. The Big Island is the only place in the United States where chocolate is made entirely from scratch, from growing the cacao trees and their pods, through processing the cacao nibs, to creating an all-Hawaiian chocolate bar.
