With students at St. Thomas Moore Catholic School
Houston. November 30, 2006. Arnaldo Richards, chef/owner of Pico's Mex-Mex Restaurant, 5941 Bellaire Boulevard, will be sharing his traditions of Three Kings Day with his daughter's fourth grade class at St. Thomas Moore Catholic School, 10330 Hillcroft, on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 7:30 AM. (Three Kings Day is actually celebrated on January 6th.) For more information about Arnaldo Richards and his visit to St. Thomas Moore Catholic School, please call 713-662-8383.
"I started taking a Three Kings Day cake, a rosca de reyes, to my oldest daughter's class when she started school 16 years ago," said Arnaldo Richards, "and it became a tradition that I have shared with all three of my daughters. The teachers are big supports of my efforts too. They look forward to the day and even teach a class about the traditions and customs surrounding the holiday," he added. "Now I have to take two cakes to the teachers lounge, just for them, and one cake to each of the two classes which my daughter attends."
Growing up in Mexico, Arnaldo's family exchanged gifts on Three Kings Day. "I remember as a child, we kids only received a tiny little present at Christmas. On Three Kings day, we got the loot! Schools were closed and it was also my grandmothers birthday, so it was truly a day to celebrate!"
"When I was about eight-year-old, my family decided to go with the flow and do what the other families were doing, so we kids started getting the loot on Christmas and just a tiny present on Three Kings Day," said Richards. "I celebrate Three Kings Day to teach my children about our families traditions and customs, and also their history, their roots, and the true meaning of the holiday."
Pico's Mex-Mex Restaurant serves Cocina Tradicional Mexicana, authentic cuisine from the seven culinary regions of Mexico, contemporary Mexican cuisine and Tex-Mex cuisine.
