Camille's Last Garden Party
Lettuce Fool Around in the Garden

Houston. January 19, 2007. Camille Waters, known as The Queen of Lettuce, will be opening her beautiful organic gardens at the edge downtown Houston to the public as she hosts her last annual epicurean picnic benefiting Urban Harvest and Chefs' Collaborative on Sunday, April 1, 2007, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, 813 Jackson Hill (behind Patrenella's Restaurant and two blocks south of Washington Avenue in the West End). Tickets at $30 each, and will be available at the garden the day of the event. For more information please call Urban Harvest at 713-880-5540.

"After thirteen years of growing organic lettuces and salad greens for Houston's most innovative and celebrated chefs, I have decided to retire and move permanently to Mexico," stated Waters, "and this will be the eleventh annual, and final garden party. We will also be celebrating Harry Sheppard's 79th birthday in the garden."

Chefs who have been invited to participate include:
  • Joseph Oldhan, Ouattro, The Four Seasons Hotel
  • Robert Del Grande, Cafe Annie
  • Mark Cox, Mark's
  • John Sheely, Mockingbird Bistro
Each chef will create and serve unique dishes featuring the heirloom lettuces and vegetables grown by farmer Camille Waters (event chair).

Chefs' Collaborative recognizes the inherent value of locally grown and harvested foods, and supports market gardeners across the United States.

Urban Harvest provides ongoing education in all phases of organic gardening and has established more than 100 gardens in seven counties in and around Houston.

Camille Waters has for the last thirteen years provided Houston's most innovative chefs with an array of salad greens, vegetables, and edible flowers.

Mandy G. Smith and Harry Sheppard provide musical entertainment while guests tour the gardens and enjoy Texas beers and organic wines. Preserves, garden art, and organic transplants are offered for sale. Prizes are awarded for especially festive garden hats, and the Kiss-A-Pug booth benefits Pug Rescue of Texas.
