Washington State Potato Foundation Announces

“Excellence In Agriculture Scholarships” Available

Applications Due: February 15, 2007

 

The Excellence In Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to entering Freshman as well as current college and trade school students in the Washington and Oregon potato growing regions who aspire a career in the agriculture arena. This scholarship program awards total gifts of $1000-$5000 to up to 20 students annually.  Top candidates may be eligible for recurring scholarships. Total awards will exceed $20,000.

 

 To qualify, a student should demonstrate many of the following traits:

¨  Have above average academic record

¨  Have an exemplary record of ag involvement/community involvement or extra-curricular success

¨   Demonstrate heritage of a ‘farm family’ or currently working in an ag related business

¨  Secure strong references from the agriculture and/or Columbia Basin leadership community

¨  Desire to enroll as a full time student in an agriculture related major

¨  Desire to share talents and return to work in an ag related industry within the Columbia Basin

¨  Special consideration will be given to students who personally (or whose family) works in the potato industry.

 

Applicants will be evaluated on their most recent academic records, extracurricular activities, personal application essays and reference letters.  An independent committee, administered by the Washington State Potato Foundation will select the winners.

Washington State Potato Foundation is a non profit corporation that has been in existence since 2000 and provides opportunities for the industry to work together and form key partnerships through research initiatives, education and charitable giving.  Last year alone, WSPF made philanthropic contributions of over $75,000 throughout the Columbia Basin area.
