Annual IFEC Scholarships Awarded

Five students each receive $3,000.

 

            Hyde Park , NY The International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) has awarded a total of $15,000 in scholarships to five students who are preparing for careers in communications in the foodservice industry.   The students will each receive $3,000 with which to pursue their studies.

            The recipients are:   Erin Boyd, Friedman School of Nutrition, Tufts University; Cristina Garcia, Missouri School of Journalism; Leena Trivedi, Joliet Junior College Culinary School; Erika Viltz, American University; and Jessica Vrazilek, University of California – Santa Barbara.

            Following her graduation Erin Boyd will begin a clinical and foodservice internship program.   Cristina Garcia plans to be a freelance food writer.   Leena Trivedi will continue her education.   Erika Viltz will complete her Master’s degree in January and looks forward to becoming a professional journalist.   Jessica Vrazilek hopes to pursue a career in food television.

 Funds for scholarships are raised through auctions held during IFEC's annual conferences and from individual and corporate donations.  

Applications for the 2006 IFEC Foodservice Communications Scholarships will be available after September 15, 2005, at the address or website below.   Students in good standing in a degree-granting program of a post-secondary institution whose studies and work experience combine the fields of foodservice and the communication arts are eligible.   Deadline for submitting applications is March 15, 2006.   More information is available at www.ifec-is-us.com.

            IFEC is a non-profit, individual membership association of 250 communications professionals working in the foodservice industry.   Through its scholarship program and other educational activities, IFEC aims to encourage high professional standards among those working in and with the foodservice media.
